Make Firefox Safer

  1. For one of the first steps, you will change your default browser to Firefox. Click here to find out how. This will ensure that you only use the most secure browser to browse the web. Only use other browsers when absolutely necessary.
  2. Now, before doing anything else, make sure that the version of Firefox that you have is the most up to date. At time of this writing, the most current version is 2.0.0.12, but version 3.0 is soon to be released. Each update has new security and bug fixes.
  3. Now go to the Mozilla Extensions page to download extra software that adds more functionality to Firefox. One of the best is Adblock Plus, this small program integrates well with Firefox and blocks pop-ups and banner ads on web sites. If you see an ad on a web site, right-click on it, choose Adblock, and it will never appear again. This is just one of the 100s of extensions for Firefox. Choose what you want and install them. Note that the more extensions that you install, the slower Firefox will start up.
  4. Lastly, this is where you customize Firefox's looks. Visit the Themes pageand choose from the many skins and themes listed. These change the look and feel of Firefox to want you want. You can download as many as you want and change them at will. Just click on Tools, Ad-ons,then click the Themes tab. Select the theme you want to use and then click Use Theme. You can also uninstall and change themes and extensions from this window.

Now you have a custom Firefox browser that is up to date and customized to what you want it to look like. Firefox is a secure browser that has all the functionality of any other browser and is much more secure.
